Don Scott

The Basics: Don Scott is the Mayor of the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo. He was elected as Mayor in October 2017, receiving 69% of the votes cast. Scott also served as a Progressive Conservative Member of the Legislative Assembly from 2012 to 2015 before being defeated by Wildrose leader Brian Jean.

Background: Scott studied at the University of New Brunswick and the University of Cambridge. He was called to the bar and practiced law before entering politics.

Things You (Really) Should Know: The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo was the site of the May 2016 wildfires and mandatory evacuation of 88,000 people. With an estimated cost exceeding $9 billion, it is the most expensive natural disaster in Canadian history.

Fun Fact: Scott was appointed a Queen's Council in 2010.
