Dan Curtis

The Basics: Dan Curtis is the 16th Mayor of Whitehorse, the capital city of the Yukon. He was elected as Mayor in October 2012. He serves on Whitehorse City Council alongside six City Councillors. Curtis was elected for a a third term as Mayor in October 2018, securing 44% of the vote.

Background: Before entering politics, Curtis worked as a realtor, and then as the Executive Director of Skills Canada-Yukon. He also ran for the Yukon Legislative Assembly for the Yukon Liberal Party in 2011, and finished third.

Things You (Really) Should Know: There are important differences in how cities located in territories operate, compared to the rest of Canada. For example, cities like Whitehorse have more direct contact with the federal government than do most cities located in provinces.
