The Basics: Patrick Brown is the Mayor of the City of Brampton. Brown was first elected in 2000 as a City Councillor in Barrie Ontario. In 2006, he was elected as a Conservative Member of Parliament. Brown served under Harper until 2015, when he announced his candidacy for Leader of the Ontario Progressive Conservative Party. Brown was elected as Leader, and served until a few months before the 2018 Ontario General Election when he resigned following allegations of sexual misconduct. Brown then declared his candidacy for Mayor in the City of Brampton, and was elected in October 2018.
Background: Brown studied Political Science at the University of Toronto, and earned a law degree at the University of Windsor. He has worked as a lawyer, including in the legal department at Magna International.
Things You (Really) Should Know: Brampton is one of Canada’s fastest growing and most diverse cities in Canada. It was originally established as Bramlea, which was one of Canada’s first suburban communities.
